Project Overview

The Consulting Engineers responsible for the Turner Street, Serpentine project design and contract supervision were VDM Consulting, on behalf of clients SN Bird and Parisi Holdings Pty Ltd.

Reilly Contractors were delighted to be appointed by VDM Consulting as the Main Contractor to undertake earthworks, road works and underground services for this 9 lot subdivision located in Serpentine.

The works comprised of site clearing which had to meet protection of flora requirements under the terms of the clearing permit.

During pre-project planning it became apparent that Reilly Contractors would require a smaller zero swing machine to complement our larger excavators. Our excavator of choice was the new Kobelco 8T short tail swing, for manoeuvring around protected trees with ease, without causing damage, allowing for trench excavation of hard clay ground on the site.

Prior to any site works commencing suitable protection fencing was erected. Prior to site mobilization all machinery was subject to stringent cleaning measures, to avoid transportation of weeds, thus meeting the die back and weed control requirements under the permit terms.

Subsequent to the site clearance, earthworks commenced with special attention to the aforementioned protected trees. To service the site, utilities to include water reticulation, power and Telstra were laid along Rudall Street and the newly constructed Turner Street. As trees could not be moved, directional drilling was utilised in various locations.

Project challenges included the limited working space around the protected trees and issues with the Company’s current mobile communications provider, due to the locality of the site from Perth. These issues were met with ease due to our foresight in purchasing the new Kobelco machine to complement our existing fleet and careful planning to ensure all materials were delivered on time to allow for projection completion ahead of program.

Having experienced previous challenges with telecommunications our team once again excelled to prove we are well equipped to work on subdivisions on the outskirts of Perth. The Company has taken steps to investigate a range of mobile telephone providers to ensure that our site teams always benefit from the best network coverage available.

Reilly Contractors was pleased to maintain our Company safety record in terms of zero incidents on this project.

This successful contract was the first as a main contractor for VDM Consulting. We are delighted that a strong relationship has been forged and look forward to supporting the Company in the future.
